Dr. Kene Anamekwe is a compassionate Physician, who is no stranger to this community and surrounding cities. Her medical education started at University of Nigeria, college of Medicine. She completed her Medical Internship at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Chattanooga, Tennessee. Afterwards, she joined Methodist Hospital Dallas where she completed her Residency program. She practiced at Parkland Hospital of Dallas before joining Murphy Medical Clinic. Vivify Wellness Center was born out of a need to address the vacuum of safe physician assisted weight loss and active life style intervention for the treatment of chronic disease in the Wylie, Murphy, Sachse, Garland, Parker, Plano and Richardson and surrounding areas.
Her area of special interest is Wellness and Obesity prevention and treatment. Our services include non-surgical weight loss. (We do not perform surgery). She is a member of the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA), formerly known as ASBP – American Society of Bariatric Physician. She is also interested in research to improve the treatment and prevention of obesity and lifestyle changes that improve one’s overall health.
She had her epiphany sometime in 2010 when it dawned on her that her medical training was mainly geared toward treating disease and not sufficiently toward addressing the root-cause of many of the chronic medical problems we are afflicted with today, which is obesity. She was constantly faced with the unhappy option of increasing medication doses for her patients with diabetes, hypertension and cholesterol etc due to poor disease control. On a different note, even with her best efforts and attention to good nutrition for her family, she found herself gaining weight and became concerned. She sought to further education to learn more about the environmental push toward this epidemic of unhealthy weight as well as the astronomical cancer incidence.
Obesity was declared a disease in 2013 and is the reason for many chronic diseases that do not improve despite proper medical management. Without treating the obesity we are merely placing band-aid on wounds. She continues to train in treatment and prevention of Obesity as a chronic disease. She feels rewarded by the fact that she is now able to take her patients off their medications and reverse their disease with appropriate lifestyle intervention rather than putting her patients on more medications to treat diabetes, high blood pressure, and other obesity related diseases.
She is married to a very supportive husband and they have three Children. Her favorite thing to do when she is not caring for her patients is growing organic fruits and vegetables. She also enjoys cooking, painting, cycling and the outdoors.
